Fall 2009 Denim
If you want to look your best in jeans, choose the jeans that look the best on you.
Skinny Jeans
The long lean shape of the skinny jean is fast becoming a new classic. The key to finding the perfect pair of jeans is in the fitting room, and this is even more true for skinny jeans. You’ve got to try on many pairs of skinny jeans until you find the right fit. Buy dark washes – indigo, dark grey or black – to create a lean silhouette and minimize your wider parts. Skinny jeans can be worn several different ways: tucked into a boot, with stiletto high heels and rolled up six to eight inches and worn over high boots, ankle boots or even stilettos. Caution: Never wear skinny jeans with sneakers.
Trouser Jeans
One of the most versatile shapes, the trouser jean looks good on almost anyone because it hides extra curviness but doesn’t create bulk. Athletic bodies look hot in this cut as it emphasizes slim hips and toned behind. For other figures, the secret to wearing trouser-style jeans is to make sure it’s properly fitted at the waist. Too loose and the jean shortens the silhouette. Too tight, and it makes the legs look stocky. Pear-shaped figures can opt for a jean cut slightly closer at the waist to emphasize curves.
Bell-Bottom Jeans
This season, bell-bottoms are more wearable than ever, with a relaxed flowing shape. Its curvy hip-hugging shape flatters pear-shaped bodies and gives balance to an hourglass silhouette. For everyone else, this style looks best with a simple, clean-cut top to keep the whole silhouette streamlined. Bell-bottoms on petite figures can overwhelm their tiny figure and shorten legs. Legs need to be hemmed so there’s less “bell” effect, and always wear heels with as much height as possible.
The High-Waist Jeans
This style elongates the legs. High-waist jeans look great on hourglass bodies because of their tiny waist. The waistline should always hit your natural waist, the slimmest part of the torso. Petite figures should look for a style that’s cut very skinny because the least bit of excess material will make them look shorter. Keep the look balanced by wearing your high-waists with a chemise and a skinny belt, and a wider leg on the bottom. High-waist bell-bottoms are very trendy but create a very elongated silhouette that only tall figures can really pull off. Discover this ultimate classic jean.
Boot-cut Jeans
The boot-cut jean is absolutely timeless. It works for the majority of body types making this jean a classic. It’s especially flattering on curvaceous women. It’s all about balance: choose a pair with enough room for your backside but that also comfortably hugs your waist. The slight flair at the bottom balances out the roundness up top, while the higher rise elongates the leg. For everyone the number priority is to find the right fit. Be patient and keep trying on different styles until you find one that suits you.
Dark Denim
Dark denim has been rediscovered. The advantages of dark denim are considerable. Dark jeans are less casual and can be worn for dressier occasions. Dark denim has a slimming effect on legs and thighs.
Weathered Jeans
Although dark denim is a strong trend this fall, the distressed look will also be hot. This is one time you can really appreciate holes in your clothing. Holes are hot and rips are even better. Ripped denim in 2009 is certainly sexy and revealing -possibly more than ever.
However you choose to wear them jeans and denim are a classic that will never go out of style. Have fun wearing the new denim trends this fall!
